Emergency Service Volunteers of NSW Memorial

The Emergency Service Volunteers of New South Wales Memorial is situated on Mrs Macquarie’s Road, The Domain Sydney.

The Memorial honours those volunteers who have served the people of New South Wales and in memory of those who have lost their lives in the course of their duties.

The Memorial bears the names of two volunteer fire fighters from the Riverina Zone who lost their lives protecting the Community in which they live, from fire.

1965: Ivan Moses, Coolamon
1970: Geoffrey Norman, Urana

Ivan Moses (Coolamon)

Ivan was fighting a fire at Methul on the 21st December 1964 when the tanker he was working with on the ground was overrun by fire. Ivan sustained burns to his neck, ears and arms. He was transported to Wagga Base Hospital where he was treated for severe burns but died of his injuries on the 19th January 1965.

Geoffrey Norman (Urana)

Geoffrey Norman was fighting a fire at Urana in 1970 when he suffered a heart attack.

The Memorial to Emergency Service Volunteers of New South Wales honours and bears the names of over 65 volunteers from the NSW Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Volunteer Rescue Association, Royal Volunteer Coastal Guard and Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association who have lost their lives helping others. The memorial is a tribute to them and their actions.
