Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Status Update

Date: 20/06/2011     Expires: 20/06/2012

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has notified the RFS of legislative changes that affect the ability for volunteer brigades to collect tax deductible donations.
This will affect volunteer brigades which currently hold Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, those who have applied for DGR status and those that intend to apply in the future.
The ATO is currently holding regular discussions with the NSW RFS and representatives from other volunteer fire services across Australia to help put together a solution which meets the legislative requirements, without being an unnecessary burden on brigades.
While this solution is developed with the ATO, it’s expected that brigades with DGR status will be able to continue to hold that status until the end of 2011 to help with the transition to the new DGR categories.
The ATO will be providing further information in the near future about the options for affected brigades and the requirements for being endorsed as a DGR.

This article will be updated as new information is provided.

World's Greatest Shave

Date: 10/03/2011     Expires: 19/03/2011

Joe Knox is taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World's Greatest Shave this year.

Please sponsor Joe by making an online donation using a credit card. I’m aiming to raise as much as I can for the Leukaemia Foundation. Their vital work provides patients with practical support during their long and tough treatment, as well as funding important research.

Cash and cheque donations can also be made at the Riverina Zone Office.

Did you know?
- Every hour of every day, at least one person in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
- Every two hours, someone loses their life to blood cancer.
- $26 can provide emotional support to help someone overcome the shock of being diagnosed
- $40 can help improve treatments and find cures by funding a PhD student's laboratory costs for a day
- $57 can support patients who are too ill to drive by providing a day's transport to and from treatment
- $80 can give a regional family who've had to move closer to treatment, a place to call home for a night

For more information about the Leukaemia Foundation visit their website: http://www.leukaemia.org.au

Thank you for your support!

Riverina Zone Welcomes New Chaplain

Date: 18/06/2009     Expires: 19/07/2009

We welcome Brad Collins who has been appointed as Chaplain for the NSW Rural Fire Service Riverina Zone.

RFS Chaplains are an integral part of the Service, and are always there when needed and they often respond to incidents with brigades in order to fully appreciate the emergency situations firefighters find themselves in. They provide their confidential care at the scenes of fire or disaster, at brigade stations and Fire Control Centres, and by visiting homes and hospitals.

Families are a primary focus of the service, not just the members in “yellows”. Ready to assist the RFS family in times of crisis and joy, they officiate at solemn events, such as funerals, memorials and dedications, as well as the celebrations of marriage and baptism.

Chaplains listen with empathy, advise calmly and offer assistance when appropriate.

Riverina Zone Chaplain Brad Collins can be contacted via the the Riverina Zone Office on 6931 5855.
